MF19 – Next-Generation Metro
The MF19, a new-generation metro train, will be progressively deployed across eight metro lines (lines 3, 3bis, 7, 7bis, 8, 10, 12 and 13). This modern rolling stock, funded by Île-de-France Mobilités, will enhance the passenger experience through improved comfort, safety and onboard information systems. Its introduction also requires a significant programme of infrastructure upgrades and network adaptations.
On behalf of Île-de-France Mobilités, which has invested €3 billion in rolling stock and €4 billion in infrastructure upgrades, RATP has commissioned a new generation of trains from Alstom to progressively replace the MF67, MF77 and MF88 fleets on eight Paris metro lines. Entry into service will begin at the end of 2025 on line 10 and continue through to 2034.
RATP led the full procurement process for the MF19 rolling stock under the 2019 “Matériel Fer” tender—from requirements definition and technical specifications through to tender management and industrialisation.
It has also overseen manufacturers and suppliers during the development and industrialisation phases, and will continue to do so throughout production.
At the same time, a major cross-network programme has been launched to ensure that infrastructure—stations, tunnels, track, and systems—is fully compatible with the new trains.
The MF19 will enable enhanced maintenance (both predictive and corrective), supported by the extensive data generated by this highly connected rolling stock.
Given its scale, technical and logistical complexity, and the innovations it introduces, the programme requires exceptional agility, flexibility and carefully coordinated industrial delivery. RATP will ensure that the introduction of the MF19 minimises disruption to existing operations.
Key figures
Up to 410 trainsets to be delivered over the next 10 years (lines 3, 3bis, 7, 7bis, 8, 10, 12 and 13).

Key Benefits
Spacious
With 4 to 5 cars and a total length of 61 to 77.5 metres, the MF19 improves passenger distribution through fully open gangways, allowing movement throughout the train.Environmentally Efficient
Manufactured using 20% recycled materials, the trains are 98% recyclable at end-of-life. They consume around 25% less energy, notably through fully electric braking and LED lighting.Comfortable
The MF19 has air-cooled ventilation, providing a higher level of passenger comfort. It is also equipped with improved seating and a natural lighting ambience.Connected
Real-time passenger information screens provide next-stop information, interchange options, service updates and station exits. USB charging points are also available.The data generated will further enhance maintenance performance.
Accessible
Dedicated spaces for passengers with reduced mobility, wider doors with gap fillers, and both audio and visual passenger information improve accessibility for all.Flexible
The MF19 is modular and available in three train lengths. It can be converted from manual to automatic operation. Interior layouts can be adapted to meet capacity requirements and evolving line needs.Secure
Onboard CCTV enhances passenger safety and security.
Upgraded Infrastructure
To accommodate the new rolling stock, the affected lines are undergoing a modernisation programme that draws on the full range of RATP Group’s expertise and represents a significant logistical and organisational achievement, including:
track and platform adjustments to suit the slightly longer MF19 trains;
upgrades to signalling systems;
reinforcement of power supply systems, particularly for acceleration phases;
new and modernised maintenance, stabling and cleaning facilities.
Existing depots, designed for earlier rolling stock, are being adapted to meet the requirements of the MF19. Modernised facilities are also designed with climate resilience in mind, incorporating heat recovery systems, improved insulation and green roofs—enhancing both working conditions and the local environment.
Deployment of the MF19 on Line 10
Following three years of preparatory works, the MF19 entered service on metro line 10 on 16 October 2025. By summer 2027, all trains on line 10 will be replaced by this new rolling stock.
In practical terms, the introduction of this new rolling stock has required the upgrading and compliance alignment of several critical systems essential to train operation, including power supply and signalling equipment. In parallel, works to improve passenger comfort have been carried out, including adjustments to certain platforms to ensure better alignment with the new trains.
