RATP Group, doing its part for the city

For over 30 years, RATP Group has pursued an ambitious, innovative real estate policy. By transforming its strong property portfolio of approximately one hundred industrial and office sites located at the heart of the city, and by contributing to the development of the public transport network, the Group is strategically positioned as a stakeholder shaping the city.

In an increasingly complex global context, real estate plays a pivotal role between the Group’s activities and regions. Numerous issues need to be addressed: excessive urban density, environmental goals, changes in user habits, social inequality and energy efficiency.

Goals

Through its urban integration policy, RATP Group does its part to transform neighbourhoods, and strives daily for better city living by :

  • Supporting the industrial transformation of the mobility offer;
  • Working in partnership with local authorities;
  • Helping to shape tomorrow’s cities, by building new and affordable housing units, offices, student residences, green areas and public facilities.

The recognition gained through the Group’s projects has enabled it to drive development well beyond its long-standing activities and properties.

  • Through its subsidiary RATP Solutions Ville, RATP Group now conducts most real estate operations on its properties on a co-development basis.
  • This development-oriented approach is equally applied to areas other than real estate. RATP Group, represented by RATP Solutions Ville, now takes part in consortia to respond to calls for tenders in which its expertise is notably valuable. The tenders relate to projects that involve complex and multi-disciplinary challenges (real estate, energy, mobility, social and inclusive housing, environmental issues and more) and non-standard construction.
Iconic developments and projects at the heart of the city Over the past 25 years, our real estate policy has led to a wide range of projects, notably with the construction of numerous housing units and public amenities (childcare centres, sports facilities, schools, businesses and green areas) in the Île-de-France region. These projects have helped transform neighbourhoods Read our project datasheets

Key figures

The Group’s real estate portfolio

The Group is one of the main property owners in the Île-de-France region, managing a global surface area of 740 hectares.

500 ha of railway track
50 ha of rail maintenance workshops
70 ha of bus depots
120 ha of mixed-use buildings
400 000 m² of office space
8 600 social housing units managed by the Group subsidiary RATP Habitat

Social and environmental responsibility

Over the years, the Group has always paid close attention to environmental concerns (eco-design, energy management, noise and vibration reduction, and the management of facilities classified for environmental protection). At the same time, architectural requirements must be taken into account, to ensure that buildings blend harmoniously into the urban landscape. This is why we aim for High Quality Environmental (HQE) standard certifications and E + C – labels, the highest environmental standards, on almost all the buildings that we build. This enables us to save a significant amount of energy and cost over the buildings’ lifespan. With regard to eco-design, it is factored into all industrial and mixed-use projects: natural ventilation, skylights, green roofs, and more.

The Group is currently analysing the potential for greening RATP’s real estate assets (office and industrial buildings), including urban agriculture.
As of 2020, the Group had:

  •  over 2 hectares of greenery,
  • including 1,500m² of urban agriculture across the surface area it manages.
