Australia – Automated Metro Supporting Urban Growth
RATP Group is active in Australia through two major projects supporting urban mobility. In Sydney, RATP Dev will operate the future automated metro line connecting Western Sydney International Airport. In Melbourne, RATP Dev has been awarded the contract to operate the Suburban Rail Loop East, a major integrated transport, urban development and housing project.
The Group’s ambition is to continue expanding in its core area of expertise: urban rail.
Strategic Corridor in Sydney
RATP Dev will operate and maintain the Sydney Metro – Western Sydney Airport line for 15 years. This fully automated 23 km line with six stations will form the backbone of western Sydney, a metropolitan area of nearly six million people. The project will open up new areas, support economic growth and create thousands of jobs. To deliver this project, RATP Dev is part of the Parklife Metro consortium (Webuild, Siemens Mobility and Plenary), contributing its expertise from the design phase to optimise system performance.

Transformational Project in Melbourne
In December 2025, RATP Dev was awarded the Suburban Rail Loop East contract in Melbourne as part of the Linewide Alliance (RATP Dev, John Holland, Alstom, KBR and WSP). Scheduled to enter service in 2035, RATP Dev will first act as shadow operator (providing upstream advisory services), before taking responsibility for operations and maintenance through the TransitLinX joint venture, under a 15-year concession.
By connecting universities, hospitals, leisure destinations, and commercial centres, this major project will significantly improve mobility across Melbourne.
