Nathalie Jarosz, head of the Water, Waste, and Circular Economy Division.
In a context of climate change, recurring droughts, and growing collective awareness, the President of the Republic announced the “Water Plan” in 2023. With nearly one million cubic meters of water consumed each year, RATP has always made the preservation of water resources one of its priorities, notably through its CSR policy commitments. This Water Plan is therefore an opportunity to go further and engage all employees in transforming our practices.

[00:00:25 – 00:00:39]
RATP’s Water Conservation Plan has mobilized all relevant departments and focused on the company’s four main areas of water consumption — namely maintenance, vehicle washing, irrigation, and all so-called tertiary uses such as building sanitation facilities.

[00:00:40 – 00:00:48]
This Water Conservation Plan is structured around five key priority projects, with the goal of reducing drinking water consumption by 10% by 2030.

[00:00:49 – 00:00:58]
These priority projects are built around the company’s main activities. They include better monitoring of our water consumption, optimizing our water usage, and raising awareness among employees.

[00:00:59 – 00:01:26]
One of the major projects of RATP’s Water Conservation Plan focuses on the reuse of non-potable water. Each year, in our underground facilities, RATP collects about 8 million cubic meters of groundwater infiltration, known as drainage water. This water is currently partially reused within RATP’s operations, but preserving drinking water resources encourages us to seek new opportunities for reuse and valorization. Among possible uses for drainage water are the watering of grass-covered tramway platforms and the washing of rolling stock.

[00:01:27 – 00:01:33]
The Water Conservation Plan is ambitious and demonstrates RATP’s commitment to both its employees and passengers in preserving water resources.
