On 12 September 2022, the new RATP Group autonomous shuttle trial was officially inaugurated in Saint-Rémy-lès-Chevreuse. Two shuttles had already been running on open road, transporting passengers along a 2-km route connecting the Coubertin car park to Chevreuse and the Saint-Rémy-lès-Chevreuse RER station since the summer.
Following the trial in Vincennes, launched at the end of 2017, this is the second autonomous shuttle trial conducted by RATP Group as part of the SAM (Safety and Acceptability of Autonomous Driving and Mobility) project, which was winner of the EVRA (Autonomous Road Vehicle Experiment) call for projects that was financed by the PIA (Promising projects Investment Programme) and ADEME, in line with the national strategy and the France autonomous vehicle project.
Following a series of tests carried out as part of the trial run that took place from March to July 2022, two “Milla Pod” shuttles have been transporting passengers for the past few weeks. The French-made shuttles are fully electric and autonomous; they can carry up to four people with a security operator on board.
The trial is supervised remotely from an Autonomous Vehicle Command Post (PCVA) located in the 12th arrondissement of Paris.
It notably aims to study the last-kilometre service offering in suburban and rural areas as an alternative solution to private vehicles.
RATP Group is a world leader in autonomous urban mobility with over 15 trials conducted and over 100,000 passengers carried in France and abroad.
